Is It Bad to Match Your Art to Your Couch?
Being an Art Month Ambassador, I am looking forward to March when Art Month Sydney is kicking off. The launch party happens on the 5th March at the National Art School in Darlinghurst. Art Month is a great way to engage with contemporary art and artists through a myriad of exhibitions, tours, events and talks in various galleries and exhibitions spaces throughout Sydney. Glenn Barkley, the Artistic Director of Art Month 2015, has curated this year’s event. I had the pleasure to meet Glenn personally at our last member event in 2014, where we visited an art collector’s home in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Glenn is passionate about connecting and collaborating with artists, who are the heart of Art Month 2015.
If you have never dared to enter an art gallery – March is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and into one of over 100 galleries around the city, opening their doors for art lovers. Art Month is your chance to discover and explore contemporary art in Sydney. You can talk to gallerists, artists, and art collectors. Attend an artist-led tour and hear directly from the creator what art is and what it means to the artist.
Collector's Space
I love the Collector’s Space that shows a number of different works from selected art collectors – works that have museum quality but have never been shown in public before. Curator Glenn Barkley says: "Collectors' Space 2015 comprises works from six different collections. Inherent in this assemblage is an element of disparity and yet all of the collections are tied by their owners’ drives to collect, support and use their collections – they surround them, they are inspiring and they demand attention".
There are four events scheduled in the Collector’s Space this year, one of which is the perfect fit for home decorators. Gotta Have It. Art in the Home asks the question: Is it bad to match your art to your couch?
