This Christmas was one of the saddest and most challenging in my life. After my decision to separate from my husband of 16 years and partner for 23 years at the beginning of 2017, I have been on a journey of exploration and discovery for the past 12 months. The journey of the spiritual warrior has not been easy, the road I was travelling has been rocky, and I encountered many obstacles to circumnavigate. A couple of weeks ago, I came to a point where I felt depleted and totally exhausted mostly the result of insomnia and not getting enough rest. I have been sick for eight weeks, and my immune system has become so weak that it can't fight the virus that is causing an ongoing cough.

However, after I read Louis Hay's books and consulted my yoga teacher who happens to be a doctor in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I have learned that the lungs hold grief and that I am going through a phase of healing. Then, I received an unexpected gift in the mail from a German friend: The Path of the Empress by Christine Li and Ulja Krautwald. The Universe sent me this book at the right time. I read it in one sitting on Boxing Day and gained even more clarity on the state I am in at the moment.

The five soul aspects in Chinese philosophy

According to Chinese Philosophy, we have five soul aspects: The Hun-soul, the Spirit- or Shen-soul, the Thought-soul, the Po-soul, and the Mystic-soul. Each of these souls is connected to an element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal), resides in one of our organs and is associated with specific characteristics. The Shen-Soul, for example, is connected to Fire, lives in the heart and is associated with kindness, compassion, love, and spirituality. To activate your Shen-Soul requires joy.

The Po-Soul, on the contrary, is connected to Metal and resides in the lungs. The Metal soul is sharp but corrosive. It is associated with orderliness, precision, technical understanding and can keep the Hun-Soul at bay. However, once love has been kindled, the Shen-Soul trumps the Po-Soul, as Fire destroys Metal.

Following the path of the spiritual warrior

I came to the realisation that my Po-Soul was quite strong in the past and one of the reasons why I felt attracted to my husband, as he has a very strong Po-Soul. However, as I have chosen the path of the spiritual warrior and peeled back all the barriers that surrounded my true self, my Shen-Soul has become so much stronger and dominant that I can't deal with Metal people any longer. Therefore, I made the decision to move away from my husband and find my new tribe. Throughout this year, the Universe kept sending new people my way, people who operate in the high energy attractor fields of compassion and love and who build relationships from a place of trust, kindness, and compassion. By the way, if you would like to learn more about this, read Power vs Force by David R Hawkins.

To help you find and strengthen your Shen-Soul, I have compiled a list of quotes that I want to share with you in this post. May they inspire you and help you see 2018 in a different light.

Love is about bottomless empathy, born out of the heart’s revelation that another person is every bit as real as you are. To love a specific person, and to identify with his or her struggles and joys as if they were your own, you have to surrender some of your self.
