Have you noticed the trend in home decorating with green? No matter where I go, in cafés, restaurants or shopping malls, no matter which interiors magazine I open up, the colour green in the form of living plants is omnipresent. When I recently visited a local flower shop and nursery, a huge display table with glass terrariums and sculptural succulents took centre stage in the entrance area.

Vertical gardens have moved from large commercial applications to our private homes. No wonder as green is a colour of nature and has soothing and relaxing qualities. It is not only good for our health but also embellishes and enlivens any interior.

Green dominates international colour forecasts

Pantone's Color of the Year 2017, Greenery, didn't come as a surprise. It is a zesty, juicy green that will bring some fun and energy into your home and life. The Pantone announcement follows in the footsteps of the international Heimtextil Trend Table, who published their Colour and Furnishing Trends 2017/18 in September this year. The trend Natural Explorations features high-chromatic greens and is all about bringing nature into your home. The Dulux Colour Forecast 2017: Antidote - A Colour Cure, released at the same time, also emphasises a green trend in residential interiors.

Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.

There you go. Who does not want to rejuvenate and revitalise? Greenery goes with many other colours – see the colour pairings below – and you can use it to create a relaxing oasis or an energising, happy space within your four walls.

If you are planning to downsize to an apartment and find it hard to give up your garden, consider incorporating pot plants in your new home. For a space-saving solution, a beautiful glass terrarium will do the trick. And Succulents are low-maintenance as well.
